How does I make an Avatar?

How do you guys get those nice images of your toons? Is it a screenshot? I can't figure it out!
Is there a size that it has to be cropped to?

You need just about any image editing program that will let you cut out a section of screen shot.  I used a 200 by 200 (200px x 200px).  The forum will resize it... others were 150x94, 138x200.  You can also search the web and and copy images to your disk or copy the URL.

You set your Avatar in the top blue bar... select "Profile" and on that page will be another menu bar where you can make the avatar selection and decide what you would like to use.

I'd like to make one of my in-game appearance. I've tried to use print screen, but I end up with a pure black image when I try to paste it somewhere.

i downloaded a screen capture application called Tiny Take by MangoApp to screen capture, crop and save as jpeg. You can also find other similar application online if you want to try some other program for it.

I can't seem to make it work. All I get is a black screen whenever I try to capture something from SWTOR. Tinytake seems to work fine for other applications. =(

YAY! I figured it out! I have an avatar now! Thank you guys!

While in game, I hit alt enter, which changed it to internet browser screen, then hit print screen and saved the image in paint.

I just make the window maximized now. I found out that different window sizes will move the UI elements around. I was wondering why they moved and I was always having to move them back to where they were, then I realized it was the different sized windows doing it.

Oh well!
